About the girl

Since my blog is pretty much going to be about my kids, I might as well have fun bragging about them.

Kate is my first born - born just over four years ago on May 22, 2002. She was a lovely little babe and has grown into a spectacularly fun little four year old. She makes me laugh each day with her eagerness to learn, her intelligence, her sensitivity and her stubbornness. Kate remains a bit of a mite - likely not more than 32 lbs. and maybe 38 inches tall. She certainly hasn't fallen off the charts but she isn't leading the pack. It is a bit odd that she is one of the smallest in her class at 'school' given I am 5'9" and dh is over 6 feet. Alas, I didn't sprout until Grade 9 or Grade 10 so she might be on the same path. Regardless, little girls are very cute ... and her feet aren't gangly at all.

My goal when I brought them home from school for the summer was to teach Kate to read. Her teachers thought it was a plausible exercise given her keenness for phonics and her eagerness to learn. While we haven't been that committed with the project, she is definitely learning. We started with the Bob Books; the characters are very interesting - Sam, Mat, Dot and Mac - Kate think they have funny names. The desire to learn, however, has been overwhelming. At this point some of her favorite activities are typing words on the computer (I created a list of words - colours and basic animals - and she will spend a lot of time simply typing out the words.

And then, came the world of Thomas. We have a lot of Thomas in this house due to Andrew's obsession (and, our willingness to splurge). Kate discovered that all of the engines' names are written on their undercarriages. She now runs around the house carrying engines and spelling out their names. Of course, Andrew thinks it is wonderful that his sister is showing such interest in his little world of trains.

Enough for today!
