I have noticed as the little ones grow, all of the little ones, that the daily routine of doing even the most basic tasks - getting dressed, serving breakfast and getting out the door has become easier and easier. Long gone are the days of spit-up and blow-outs, not something I truly miss.
This morning was probably the wake-up call of how much easier a family can maneuver when the kidlets are just that much older.
A phone call this morning at about 9:15 finally got me out of Kate's bed (that a record in itself - but a night of a musical beds so not completely restful). My SIL was keen on our prior day's invite to go to Dim Sum. With naps required in the afternoon, Jim agreed to meet at 11 at a restaurant in Chinatown, a 30 minute drive - leaving a mere 75 minutes, to get four children fed and dressed, one adult out and back from a run, two adults showered and four children safely strapped into the minivan.
Amazingly, we made it out of the driveway, with only a slight delay from my suggested departure time.
Andrew continues to amaze me. As we were walking up to the restaurant, Andrew was gleeful that he smelled chicken nuggets. The poor soul, of course, ate practically nothing. He seemed to appreciate the egg cake and the vanilla ice cream, but flipped at the idea of a pork bun (which we call a Chinese hamburger). I love pork buns and think Dim Sum is worthy of a trip every weekend, just for pork buns.
Seanie, again, amazed the masses. He sat for over an hour, and simply ate, and ate, and ate. He lost a bit of focus towards the end (who could blame him); however, he seemed satisfied with a few tea cups and a bit of pouring fun. He never did reach his norm befitting one of his many nicknames - 'Sir Whine A Lot' - for which all of us were tremendously relieved.
Not intentionally leaving out dear Kate or Deckles - their participation was as to be expected, very lovely. Their stories of ice skating and the library trip will follow later this week.
