Pancakes and donuts are a huge hit in this house. A lot can be accomplished in very short order with the prospect of a trip to the pancake house or to Tim Hortons. We also seem to have a lot of happy moments which involve either of these two foodstuffs.
This past week, Andrew's preschool class posted a list of things that make them happy. Andrew's response - going to the pancake place. He is our unique soul - never takes the easy path or responds with the typical answers. One of his teachers came to ask whether this pancake place really did exist or was it an imaginary favorite place. As from prior posts, the local pancake joint is very popular for all members of the family so I did share with her our passion for hotcakes. [I have hugely fond memories of going to our 'local' pancake joint as a child - every Sunday after church we went as a family to the Golden Griddle and almost always had the family special. On really really special occasions we got to order from menu - apple waffles I think were one of my favorites.]
Donuts at Tim Hortons are also a bit hit around here. Kathleen follows my lead - maple dip donuts while Andrew has adopted my second choice - double chocolate dip donuts. We call them the 'Momma Donuts' as it seem the world of Timbits (our treat from last summer) doesn't suffice. Deckie always gets part of a donut as well but I stay away from the dipped variety - he is hard enough to keep clean.
We also integrated the routine of donuts post-Saturday morning gymnastics - we pick-up donuts after gymnastic and snack on them in the backyard. Kathleen was too ill to go to gymnastics this weekend (viral bug of some sort). Originally, we had told her that no gymnastics, meant no donuts (when we thought she was just trying to get out of gymnastics - not sure why, she does like it!). So, at 3am, when she dragged her poor very feverish body into our bed (she was so hot) - she did clearly announce that she felt she was way to sick for gymnastics but would a donut still be possible!
Funny thing these food obsessions!
