Happy birthday Declan!

Yesterday was Declan's first birthday. School held a little party for him - his first birthday cake. Kathleen and Andrew were invited and they both had fun nibbling on cake but then amused themselves, together, with the various baby toys. They were eager to leave at the end of the party so they could rejoin their rooms that had their own special activities planned - more birthday cake for Andrew and freshly baked chocolate chip chookies for Kathleen (one of the teacher's partners came in to bake cookies with the kids!).

We celebrated Declan's b-day today with the standard fare of cake, balloons (even a yellow balloon for the new baby) and a gift. Declan enjoyed his carrot cake. Kathleen and Andrew really enjoyed his gift, a new 'talking' phone. Poor Declan barely even saw his new toy. Tomorrow will be a bit different I am sure.

I can't believe he was born just one year ago. He is an amazing little kid - very busy, but very calm. He is a happy little guy who really enjoys getting into the mele with his siblings. Our draconian measures of sleep inducement (cry-it-out) have been working miracles after months upon months of horrid, disruptive sleep. (Sometimes you have to wonder how we ever got pregnant again!) He even managed to stand up on his own, without any supporting furniture to pull himself up. Declan isn't quite ready to walk but is very very close.
